Special Events
Through the school year there are a number of events that take place in HID. The purpose of the events is to allow students the opportunity to use their language in natural settings. Events include the following:
Room-door Decoration Contest - This is held at the beginning of every semester. This is an opportunity for students to use their second language with their roommates and enhance the international atmosphere in HID. Decorations rules and judging criteria are explained at the student orientation held at the beginning of the semester.
Inter-language Sports day - This event is held early in the first semester. The purpose of this event is two-fold. It helps create a strong relationship between students of the same language and students from different languages. It is also a chance for students to use their second language in a natural setting.
Singing Contest - This event held in the latter part of the second semester. It is a chance for students to show-off the singing skills they have developed by using the HID singing room. Entries may make use of the singing room machine or may choose to sing and perform their own music.
Language and Culture Nights - This event is held at the end of every semester and is something of a finale. In teams, students prepare a short presentation that reflects some aspect of the language and culture they have been learning. Presentations should also reflect what students have learned over the course of the semester.
